SAN FRANCISCO STREET ART CULTURE
Today we look at the "Silver Man." Silver men and woman can be seen all over the world, but did you know it began in San Francisco? At pier 39 it was common to see men painted in silver and other colors "statuing" on the crate to some funk, hip hop or electro music. Artists ranged from various skill levels, many of them being pioneers in strutting, boogaloo and roboting. As a dancer myself, I have learned from each one of these performers and took the crate myself on occasion. This culture runs deep from its inception of Boogaloo in Oakland, to the incredible street performing of Robot Shields who performed on the streets of San Francisco with his miming, dancing, and roboting, and many others who contributing to the culture from Hunters Point, Fillmoe, and other neighborhoods in the City. Enjoy!
